Golden Humanitarian

WHAT WE DO

The aim of our Golden Humanitarian Project is to be of assistance to all those who need us. We plan to use our project as a platform to empower those who are particularly vulnerable due to limited access to desirable socioeconomic resources. Our primary focus is to support and guide schools and orphanages in Africa towards the creation and maintenance of optimal living and learning conditions that will prompt the healthy development of children and young adults. We plan to achieve this by continuing to gather funds (through social media and events) to provide financial support when required, as well as creating workshops that target health and personal development of the general population. Lastly, we aim to promote the self-sustainability of all those we support by prompting the creation of businesses and use of local resources.

WHAT WE CARE FOR

Encourage children to dream big

We bought and collected a variety of goods and school supplies as well as funds to donate to children in schools, orphanages and villages, and some essential supplies to a hospital that we intended to visit. With 10 suitcases full, the initiative was a success, as many of the contributions came not only from our travellers but also their friends, families and their followers on social media.

Provide children with basic needs

There was no drinking water at this school because there was no water filter. We raised funds kindly donated by our followers and ourselves to build a filtered water system so that children can drink clean water.

We have also donated monthly, since November 2022, an amount that provides a meal for each child at the school for a year.

Support individuals to improve their health

This little girl, Ayrini, has a health problem that makes it difficult for her to walk, but with medical monitoring and physiotherapy she will be able to improve her condition.

We ran a fundraising campaign to help her get consultations and specialised treatment, which have helped her recovery.

Support children in their education

Donation of school supplies for children at a school. We also distributed some sweets and cookies to these +300 children. A small gesture that made a positive impact on their day.

At Golden Traveller, travelling is much more than a simple trip from A to B. For us, it is essential to get closer and learn about the culture, traditions and customs of the local people and get to know their way of living. Human contact is a must for us. This experience has shown and taught us a lot and no Golden Traveller participant remained indifferent. Therefore, the Golden Humanitarian project was born out of necessity but, above all, from the gratification of giving back, because it is an exchange for both them and us, and we want to give them the support they need to facilitate the full potential they have as individuals and as communities.

CAUSES WE ARE SERVING

Meals For Children at Mang'ola Juu School in Tanzania

We started this project in November 2022, when we visited a school in Tanzania and were moved by how strong and determined the students are, having to walk from home to school for 2 hours every day with no food to feed them for the entire school term.

We joined forces and up until now we have been able to donate a total of over £3000, sent monthly by regular donors, to provide lunch meals to 161 children. This gesture has made it easier for them to study with more focus and enthusiasm, resulting in an increased positive performance and outcome.

Our Goal

We aim to help the Mang’ola school become a sustainable and self-sufficient institution where they can grow and take care of their own food supply. With the funds raised, the goal is to rent a piece of land where the school members can plant vegetables, fruits, and herbs, both for self-consumption throughout the school year and for sale in the community. The earnings will allow the school to reinvest in the land rent and production, while maintaining the children’s meal support.

Ayrini's Physiotherapy Sessions

We met 5-year-old Ayrini through her mother Jennifer, who works at the lodge where we stayed when we travelled to Tanzania. This little girl has a mobility disability that does not allow her to walk, but with proper medical care she can gain some mobility.

We connected to her story as it could be our own. A hard working mother doing the best for her family. We served as a link between her mother and a medical team which reviewed Ayrini’s medical condition and guided her towards the appropriate treatment. She was advised to have frequent appointments with physiotherapists. With the help of our donations and her own hard work, Jennifer built a wooden stand to facilitate the physical exercises prescribed by the physiotherapists. We are very pleased to see Ayrini’s improvement as she is now able to stand up with some support (which she was unable to do before).

Our Goal

Our goal is to create the appropriate conditions for Ayrini to develop her physical capabilities in the best possible way, improving her quality of life. With the right assistance and treatment, she is able to live a more independent life.
